Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 450 g beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 15 g soy sauce
  • 15 g oyster sauce (optional)
  • 15 g fresh ginger (grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

For the Onions and Beef

  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 15 g vegetable oil (for sautéing)
  • 30 g vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • Salt to taste salt and pepper
  • 15 g cornstarch

For the Sauce

  • 30 g soy sauce
  • 30 g oyster sauce (optional)
  • 30 g hoisin sauce
  • 30 g rice vinegar

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together 15g of soy sauce, 15g of oyster sauce (if using), ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add the beef strips to the marinade, coating them well. Let the beef sit for 10-15 minutes.

Cooking Onions

  • Heat 15g of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with a little salt and pepper, then remove and set aside.

Searing the Beef

  • In the same pan, increase heat to high, add 30g of vegetable oil, then stir-fry the marinated beef strips for 2-3 minutes or until browned.

Making the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, combine 30g of soy sauce, 30g of hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Mix well and pour over the beef. Allow the sauce to simmer for a few minutes until thickened.

Combining & Serving

  • Return the sautéed onions to the pan and stir to combine. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Consider adding bell peppers or snap peas for extra color and crunch. For spicy flavors, add chili peppers or red pepper flakes.
