Bun Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour Can substitute half with wholemeal flour
  • 240 ml milk Warm to dissolve yeast
  • 100 g sugar Increase for sweeter buns
  • 75 g raisins Add to dough
  • 60 g butter Warm with milk
  • 2 teaspoons yeast About 7g
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Adds warmth
  • 1 large egg For binding
  • Water As needed for dough consistency

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
  • In a small saucepan, gently heat the milk and butter together until warm.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Dissolve the yeast into the warm milk mixture, then add the egg, mixing well.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, folding in the raisins.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour.

Baking

  • After rising, punch the dough down and shape into small buns.
  • Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve warm with butter or jam.

Notes

Consider adding chopped nuts for extra crunch. Increase sugar for sweeter buns or glaze with syrup after baking. Experiment with spices like nutmeg or cloves.
