Ingredients

Fruit Layer

  • 3 pieces ripe bananas, sliced Choose ripe bananas for sweetness.
  • 1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

Cake Layer

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted 1 stick.

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Toast for extra flavor if desired.
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • whipped cream (for serving)
  • maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange the sliced bananas in an even layer at the bottom of the dish.
  • Top the bananas with the drained crushed pineapple and cherry pie filling.

Assembly and Baking

  • Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the fruit layers.
  • Drizzle the melted butter across the top, trying to cover as much of the cake mix as possible.
  • Sprinkle the chopped walnuts and chocolate chips evenly over the buttered cake mix.
  • Bake for about 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving. Top each serving with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

Notes

Keep leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can prepare it a day in advance, and if desired, reheat before serving. Feel free to swap in different fruit fillings like apple or peach for a unique twist.
