Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 30 g unsalted butter (cold) Cut into small pieces
  • 180 ml water Approximately, to form a soft dough

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  • Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add water, a little at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon until you form a soft dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about a minute, just until it comes together.
  • Shape the dough into a round or flatten it to about 2.5cm thick.
  • Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Allow the bread to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm with butter or jam. Can pair with honey, cream cheese, or smoked salmon.
