Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 whole whole chicken or use shredded chicken
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ rub homemade or store-bought
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 50 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your Traeger or pellet grill to 225°F (107°C).
  • If using homemade BBQ rub, mix together the ingredients; otherwise, have your store-bought rub ready.
  • Rub the BBQ rub all over the chicken, ensuring it is well coated.
  • In a small bowl, combine olive oil, apple cider vinegar, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
  • Drizzle the marinade evenly over the chicken.

Cooking

  • Place the chicken on the grill and smoke for approximately 4-6 hours, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before shredding the meat.

Serving

  • Serve the pulled chicken with extra BBQ sauce if desired.
  • Consider serving on soft buns, with coleslaw, or over salad greens.

Notes

Let the chicken rest after smoking for better flavor. Experiment with different BBQ sauces for variety. Leftovers can be used in tacos, salads, or pasta dishes.
