Ingredients

Chocolate and Nuts

  • 6 ounces fair trade dark chocolate, chopped About 60 to 72 percent cocoa recommended
  • 1 cup pecan halves or large pieces
  • pinch flaky sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional) Only if chocolate seems thick when melting
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon or espresso powder (optional) For a cozy twist

Instructions

Preparation

  • Toast the pecans in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 3 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly until they smell nutty.
  • Line a small baking sheet or flat plate with parchment paper.
  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second bursts, stirring each time, until smooth. Alternatively, melt gently on the stove over low heat.

Assembly

  • Pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment and spread it into a rough rectangle about a quarter inch thick.
  • Press the toasted pecans into the top of the chocolate and sprinkle with flaky salt.
  • Chill in the fridge for 25 to 35 minutes, until firm.
  • Break into pieces and enjoy!

Notes

Do not rush the melting process; if you use high heat, the dark chocolate can seize and become grainy. Keep chilled until served to maintain firmness.
