Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Keeps the dough tender.

  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar For sweetness.
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon Classic flavor.
  • 1 pinch Salt Balances sweetness and enhances flavor.

For the frosting

  • 4 oz Cream cheese For a creamy texture.
  • 2 tbsp Softened butter Adds richness.
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar Sweetens the frosting.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Flavor enhancer.
  • 1 tbsp Milk To loosen the frosting.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch pan or line with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda.
  • Stir in buttermilk and melted butter until a soft dough forms. It should be slightly tacky but not sticky.
  • Pat the dough into a rectangle, about 9 by 6 inches. Dust with a touch of flour if needed.
  • Spread softened butter on the dough, then sprinkle brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  • Roll the dough up from the shorter side into a tight cylinder and slice into 6 rolls.
  • Place the rolls in the prepared pan.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 14 to 18 minutes, until they are lightly golden and set in the center.
  • Remove from the oven and frost with the cream cheese frosting while the rolls are still warm.

Notes

Mix the frosting while the rolls bake. Store leftovers covered at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 3 days. For freezing, bake, cool, then freeze unfrosted.
