Ingredients

For the filling

  • 16 oz cremini mushrooms Diced
  • 1 medium yellow onion Diced
  • 6 cloves garlic Minced
  • Salt to taste Salt

For assembly

  • 17.3 oz puff pastry 2 sheets, thawed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil For cooking
  • 12 oz sharp white cheddar cheese Grated

Instructions

Preparation

  • Thaw the puff pastry sheets and lay them flat on a large cutting board.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a muffin pan.
  • Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Dice the onion and garlic, then add them to the hot oil and sauté until transparent.
  • Dice the cremini mushrooms and add them to the pan. Season with salt and cook until tender, draining any excess liquid.
  • Transfer the sautéed mushroom mixture to a mixing bowl and mix in the grated sharp white cheddar cheese after it has cooled slightly.
  • Roll out the puff pastry and cut each sheet into 9 equal squares.
  • Place each puff pastry square into a muffin cup to form a little cup.
  • Spoon about 1 ½ tablespoons of the mushroom cheese mixture into each pastry square.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-17 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

Notes

These bites are best served warm. Pair them with dips like yogurt or marinara for a flavor boost. They can be prepared ahead of time and frozen for later.
