Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8 by 8 inch pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix flour, brown sugar, salt, and melted butter in a bowl until it resembles damp sand. Press this mixture into the lined pan.
  • Bake the base for about 12 to 15 minutes until lightly set.

Topping

  • In a small saucepan, warm the butter, maple syrup, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt over low heat until smooth.
  • Stir in vanilla and fold in chopped pecans.
  • Pour the pecan mixture over the baked base and spread evenly.
  • Bake again for about 15 to 18 minutes until bubbly around the edges.
  • Let the bars cool completely before slicing to ensure a crunchy topping.
