  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes, undrained (14.5 ounces or 400 g)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (120 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional) (100 g)

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until it’s cooked through.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened.
  • Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook until wilted, which should take a few minutes.
  • Add the diced tomatoes (with their juice), tomato sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.
  • If you’re using mozzarella cheese, sprinkle it on top.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  • Let it rest for a few minutes, then serve and enjoy!

Notes

Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. You can freeze it for up to 3 months—just make sure to let it cool completely before freezing. For spicy variations, add hot sauce or red pepper flakes. For a vegetarian version, swap the meat for lentils or tofu.
