Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 450 g ground beef Use lean ground beef for less grease.
  • 1 can (400 g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (400 g) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (400 g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder Adjust based on spice preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 litre beef broth Use low-sodium for less salt.

Optional Toppings

  • shredded cheese For a creamy texture.
  • sour cream To balance the spices.
  • chopped green onions

Instructions

Cooking

  • In a large pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until soft and fragrant.
  • Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper, and let the spices infuse for a minute.
  • Add kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  • For a Crock Pot, transfer after browning the beef, add all ingredients, and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  • For an Instant Pot, add ingredients after browning beef and cook on high pressure for 10 minutes.
  • Serve hot with optional toppings.

Notes

For added heat, include chopped jalapeƱos or a dash of hot sauce. For a vegetarian version, substitute lentils or vegetables for ground beef. A teaspoon of sugar or honey can balance tomato acidity.
