Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 medium head green cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari, plus more to taste
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes, optional
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the cabbage thin, removing the core to avoid tough bites.
  • Heat a large skillet or sauté pan over medium high heat and add oil.

Cooking

  • Add sliced onion and a pinch of salt, cooking for 2 to 3 minutes until softened.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring to avoid burning.
  • Add the cabbage to the pan and toss with tongs, cooking for about 5 to 7 minutes until tender and starting to brown.
  • Season with smoked paprika and red pepper flakes, adding soy sauce or tamari to taste. Adjust salt as needed.
  • Once cabbage is tender but still has some bite, remove from heat and add vinegar or lemon juice, along with black pepper and garnish.

Serving

  • Enjoy the dish hot, paired with rice, quinoa, or eggs.

Notes

For best texture, ensure uniform slicing and do not overcrowd the pan. This dish is best served fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days. For additional flavors, consider variations like adding spices or protein options.
