Ingredients

For the custard

  • 3 large large eggs
  • 180 ml half and half or whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt

For cooking

  • 4 tablespoons butter for cooking
  • 1 pack King’s Hawaiian Rolls 1 (12-pack)
  • powdered sugar for dusting
  • fresh fruit for topping
  • maple syrup for serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and half and half until fully combined.
  • Add in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt, whisking until everything is well incorporated.
  • Take a toothpick or skewer to poke several holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll.

Cooking

  • Working in batches, dip each roll into the custard mixture for about 30 seconds, turning to coat all sides.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
  • Carefully cook the soaked rolls for approximately 30-60 seconds per side, or until they turn golden brown.
  • Serve the Hawaiian Roll French Toast warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with fresh berries and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

For added flavor, try adding a teaspoon of orange or lemon zest to the custard or sprinkle chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for crunch. Chocolate chips can also be added for a tasty variation.
