Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until they’re soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in dried thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets and cut into strips, approximately 1 inch wide.

Assembly and Baking

  • Place a spoonful of the beef mixture along the center of each pastry strip.
  • Fold the pastry over the filling and gently twist each strip to form a spiral shape.
  • Place the twists on the prepared baking tray. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they’re golden brown and crispy.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These pastry twists pair well with homemade dipping sauces like yogurt sauce or sweet chili sauce. You can prepare the beef mixture ahead of time and store in the fridge for up to 2 days. For variety, you can use crescent roll dough instead of puff pastry.
