Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 2 large eggs Use fresh eggs for better texture and binding.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk (about 190 g / 6.7 oz) Adds moisture, sweetness, and richness.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for shaping Bread flour may make donuts chewier; cake flour makes them more delicate.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Helps the donuts puff slightly.
  • Oil for frying vegetable, canola, or sunflower oil recommended
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, crack in the eggs, add the salt, and pour in half a can of sweetened condensed milk (about 190 g). Whisk or stir together until the mixture is smooth and uniform in color.
  • Sift together the flour and baking powder, then gradually add this dry mix to the wet ingredients in the bowl. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 3–4 minutes until it becomes soft, pliable, and no longer sticks to your hands. Add a little flour if the dough is too sticky but be careful not to dry it out.
  • Heat about 2 inches (5 cm) of oil in a frying pan over low to medium-low heat. The oil should be hot but not smoking (about 320°F / 160°C) to allow even cooking without burning.

Frying

  • Divide the dough into small portions and shape each into a small donut shape or simple round ball if preferred.
  • Fry the donuts in batches, turning gently, for about 3–4 minutes per side until they turn a golden brown color. Adjust heat as needed to avoid burning before cooking through.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried donuts to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Once slightly cooled, dust the donuts lightly with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Keep the oil temperature steady; too hot and the outside burns before the inside cooks. Don’t overcrowd the pan while frying – this drops the oil temperature and causes greasy donuts. For a less rich alternative, serve with fresh fruit or a simple glaze instead of powdered sugar.
