  • In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries and water.
  • Bring the mixture to a lively boil, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer.
  • Gradually add sugar according to your taste, stirring until it fully dissolves.
  • Allow the sauce to cook until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens, approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Once it’s done cooking, remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool before serving.

Notes

Cranberry sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week. It tastes better after a day or two as flavors mingle. For a twist, add orange or lemon zest while cooking, or a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg.
