  • 8 tablespoons 1 stick of unsalted butter, melted Use unsalted butter for a better flavor.
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour 310 grams
  • 1/3 cup white granulated sugar 70 grams
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped fresh cranberries 120 grams; for best results, use fresh cranberries.
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest Freshly grated for more flavor.
  • 2 cups buttermilk 480 ml

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar 120 grams
  • 3 tablespoons milk 45 ml

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Melt the butter in a 9 x 9 or 8 x 8 baking dish while it’s heating.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, chopped cranberries, and orange zest until evenly combined.
  • Gradually add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients. Stir with a spoon until the dough forms a ball.
  • Press the biscuit dough into the pan with the melted butter, spreading it evenly.
  • Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Glaze Preparation

  • While the biscuits are baking, combine the vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and milk in a bowl. Mix until you achieve a drizzling consistency.

Completion

  • Once the biscuits are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled biscuits before serving.

Notes

These biscuits can be served warm or at room temperature. For an extra touch, sprinkle a little extra orange zest on top before serving. They pair wonderfully with tea or coffee.
