Ingredients

Chutney Base

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries Use fresh cranberries for best results.
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced Any sweet variety of apple works well.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar Provides acidity to balance sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion Use yellow or white onion for flavor.

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds warmth to the chutney.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger Enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves A little goes a long way.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup raisins Adds additional sweetness and texture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large saucepan, combine the cranberries, diced apples, sugar, and apple cider vinegar.
  • Add the chopped onion, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, and salt to the mixture.

Cooking

  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently to avoid sticking.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in the raisins and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Cooling

  • Remove from heat and let it cool before serving.

Notes

This chutney can be served with roasted meats, as part of a cheese platter, in holiday sandwiches, or on crackers. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
