Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 2 lb. 1 (2-lb.) bag baby carrots (900g)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (30g)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (15g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt or more to taste
  • 1 sprig fresh thyme or rosemary for garnish, optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash the baby carrots thoroughly under cold running water.
  • Place the washed carrots into a 2-quart saucepan and pour enough water over them to cover completely.
  • Put the lid on the saucepan and heat it on high until the water comes to a boil.

Cooking

  • Once boiling, let the carrots cook for about 6 to 7 minutes until they are slightly tender.
  • Carefully discard half of the water from the saucepan.
  • Add the butter, brown sugar, and salt to the pan. Stir well until everything is nicely combined.
  • Cover the saucepan again, and continue to cook for an additional 6 to 7 minutes until the carrots are tender but not mushy.
  • Before serving, taste and adjust with more brown sugar or salt if necessary.

Notes

These carrots make a perfect side dish for any meal. Serve them warm alongside proteins like roast chicken or grilled fish. For an elegant touch, garnish with fresh thyme or rosemary. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice before serving can enhance the flavor.
