Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 3 small small oranges or tangelos About 18–20 slices
  • 600 grams granulated sugar
  • 750 milliliters water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by carefully slicing the oranges into ¼-inch rounds. You can use a sharp knife or a mandoline for even slices. Make sure to remove any seeds you encounter along the way.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat this mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Bring the syrup to a boil.

Cooking

  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to a gently simmer. Carefully add the orange slices in a single layer, ensuring they’re evenly distributed in the pot.
  • Let them simmer for about 45–60 minutes, turning occasionally until the peels become translucent and tender.

Cooling and Finishing

  • Using tongs, gently remove the orange slices from the syrup and place them on a wire rack. Let them dry uncovered at room temperature for 24–48 hours. They should feel tacky but set when done.
  • For a frosted finish, you can roll the orange slices in granulated sugar. Alternatively, you can dip them in melted chocolate and sprinkle with flaky salt for an extra indulgent treat!

Notes

Once dried, store the orange candy in an airtight container to keep them fresh. They can last for several weeks if kept properly! You can experiment with other citrus fruits like lemons or limes for unique flavors.
