Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 2 large apples, peeled and diced Use a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for depth of flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Melted for cooking the apple filling.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon flour To thicken the apple mixture.

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg for egg wash Beaten for brushing on pastry.
  • Caramel sauce store-bought or homemade For drizzling on top.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Whipped cream for serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples soften, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the flour to thicken the mixture slightly, then remove it from the heat.
  • Roll out your thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 6 rectangles or squares.

Baking

  • Brush the tops of each pastry piece with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden finish while baking.
  • Place the puff pastry on the lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until puffed up and golden brown.
  • Once baked, allow the pastries to cool slightly. Carefully cut the middle out of each pastry, creating a small 'well' for the filling.

Assembly

  • Spoon the warm apple filling into the center of each pastry.
  • Drizzle generously with caramel sauce, and dust with powdered sugar and add a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes
