Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 head large head of cabbage
  • 500 g minced meat (beef or an alternative)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400 g can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (like dill or parsley) for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Carefully remove the leaves from the cabbage head and blanch them in boiling water until they are soft.
  • In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until they turn translucent and fragrant.
  • In a large bowl, combine the minced meat, cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the filling at the base, and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.

Baking

  • In a baking dish, spread some of the diced tomatoes on the bottom and add the rolled cabbage on top.
  • Mix the remaining diced tomatoes with the tomato paste and pour this sauce over the cabbage rolls.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the oven for 40-50 minutes.
  • Once ready, garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

Cabbage Preparation: If you want to make the rolling process easier, try freezing the cabbage head overnight. This will soften the leaves and make them easier to work with. Customize the Filling: You can add diced bell peppers, carrots, or even beans for a vegetarian twist. One-Pot Wonder: Instead of baking, you can also cook the cabbage rolls in a large pot with the tomato sauce for 30-40 minutes on the stovetop.
