Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Using unsalted butter ensures you can control the saltiness of the cookies. For a dairy-free version, consider using plant-based margarine.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract A high-quality pure vanilla extract will enhance the flavor. Vanilla bean paste or vanilla powder can also work well.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dried blackberries, chopped Dried blackberries provide a concentrated flavor and texture. If unavailable, you can substitute with other dried fruits like cranberries or cherries.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the vanilla extract to the mixture and blend until fully incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually introduce this dry mix into the butter mixture, stirring until just combined. Take care not to overmix to maintain the cookies’ delicate texture.
  • Gently fold in the chopped dried blackberries, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space in between each ball, then lightly flatten each one.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are just golden brown.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies can be served warm with tea or coffee and stored in an airtight container for up to one week. Refrigerating can extend freshness for an additional week. To restore freshness, preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) for about 5 minutes.
