Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 1.1 kg apples, peeled and sliced
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Crust

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • to taste Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with the granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Let this mixture sit for a few minutes.
  • Roll out the first pie crust to fit a large baking sheet, approximately 45x33 cm. Press it into the sheet and up the sides.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the crust, spreading it evenly across the surface.
  • Roll out the second pie crust and carefully place it over the apple filling. Seal the edges well and cut slits in the top crust.
  • Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Once baked, let the pie cool before cutting it into squares.
  • If desired, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Best served warm, this pie pairs well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Consider adding nuts or caramel for extra flavor variations. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
