Ingredients

For the Roses

  • 3 pieces apples (any variety you like) Choose sweet and tart varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed) Thaw according to package instructions.
  • 6 tablespoons apricot preserves
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice Juice of half a lemon can also be used.
  • cinnamon (to taste) About 1 tablespoon suggested for topping.
  • sugar (for sprinkling) About 3 tablespoons suggested.
  • powdered sugar (optional, for serving) Can be sprinkled on top before serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions.
  • Slice each apple in half, remove the cores, and cut them into thin slices.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the water with lemon juice and add the sliced apples. Microwave for about 5 minutes, or until the apples are slightly tender.
  • Drain the apples after microwaving and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the apricot preserves with water until well combined.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry and cut it into 6 equal long strips.

Assembly

  • For each strip, spoon some of the apricot mixture at the top, then arrange 7-9 apple slices along the strip with the peel side facing outward.
  • Fold the pastry over the apples and roll it up tightly to form a rose shape.
  • Place each rose in a muffin tin to help them hold their shape.
  • If desired, sprinkle a mixture of 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and 3 tablespoons of sugar over the top of the roses.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, placing a pan of water on the bottom rack to keep the pastries from burning.
  • After baking, remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

Apple Roses can be served warm or at room temperature. Pair them with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat. You can prepare the roses a few hours before baking and refrigerate.
